FLA station - February 2017

Upcoming Gatherings

Thursday February 9, St Petersburg Yacht Club, Joel Taliaferro Tuesday February 14, Stuart Yacht and Country Club, Harry Robinson Wednesday February 22, Lauderdale Yacht Club, Peter Grimm

There is more information on the Club website

Thursday afternoon February 16, No Name Harbor, Key Biscayne

Scott and Mary Flanders on board Egret Adventure will lead a spontaneous cruise!

They plan to meet the afternoon of the 16th at No Name and depart on the 17th, its an easy run to the Islamorada area then Marathon the next day. They would arrive Marathon on the 19th early enough for a rum keg or whatever. They could anchor just outside the channel to Boot Key and dinghy in to a restaurant. Key West the next day would again be an easy run and perhaps on to the Marquesas after getting fuel. If not, they could stop overnight at Boca Grand Key then across Boca Grand Channel to the Marquesas the next morning.

Their cruising speed would be around 7 knots or less if there are powerboats that can't maintain 7 knots. If there are sailboats in the group with more than 4' drafts they'll work it out. Bottom line: they'll make it doable for everyone and they will have fun.

If the weather doesn't cooperate, they'll have to cancel. Usually February in the Keys is pretty good but still.....................

Again, Mary and Scott were going to do this anyway so whoever would like to join them would be welcome.

So please would all those who might be interested, get in touch with Scott and Mary right away.

RCs comments

This is version one of hopefully what will be a monthly email about the station’s events along with some cruising chat. This version is produced in haste due to the spontaneity of the Egret Adventure cruise!

PLEASE remember to update your member profile on the Club’s website so your information will be correct in the upcoming Blue Book.

If you know of any others out on the water please let our new Historian, Milt, and I know - thank you!

Wishing you all fair winds Barbara
